The Stag Surrey, 2020 - 2024
Vice President and Deputy Editor
I have been writing for The Stag since my first semester at university. Beginning as a place to write opinion and reviews in the Culture section, my role grew to being Culture Editor, to Features Editor, and finally to Vice President and Deputy Editor.

It has been a huge part of my life in Guildford, as I encourage new students to get involved with the society, and develop the magazine in a new direction as we reach it's 50th anniversary.

Here are some of my favourite pieces! Click on their titles to read them on The Stag website.
I wrote this piece in a few minutes, on a bus in Guildford at night. I never expected it to reach the numbers it did, but a year later, I was Highly Commended at the Student Publication National Awards in the category 'Best Creative Piece.' Here's what judge, Punteya van Terheyden said about it:

"Grounding and sad to read about so succinctly how much us women have to think about and negotiate internally to try and stay safe. This exhausting internal monologue is repeated up and down the country day in day out. A very powerful and effective piece of writing that no doubt resonated with many."
In March 2024, I was invited to watch the Univision 2024 Final, the largest student-run television production in the country, from the studio.
In my placement year, I studied abroad in Wellington, New Zealand, and was able to travel around NZ, Australia and Singapore during the summer.

When I returned to Surrey, I felt it was important to encourage other students to seize the opportunity to travel on a budget. That was the impetus for the Culture series, "Travels with..." which I championed during my final year of university.
At The Stag, we get invited to a lot of press events.

Here is an interview we conducted with one of the stars of the West End's The Play That Goes Wrong. What a privilege!
Pride and Prejudice has been my favourite book since I was a kid. Any excuse to write about it is enough for me! This was one of my first articles, which ended up being published in my second year.

I noticed how with each lockdown, my social media would spike with people discovering the novel, the TV series or the film for the first time, identifying with the characters and engaging with its themes. I'd gone from a kid obsessed with period dramas, to an adult very fond of walking, living in the county where Jane Austen herself lived. I'd come full circle!

Sue me: I'm a fan of Coldplay. Always have been, and I suppose I always will be.
As Culture Editor I felt it was my responsibility to spread the word through not one, but two articles about their album 'Music of the Spheres.' The first was a review, and the second was a collaboration with debut writer Brandon Kartick where we discussed their World Tour. His great insight into the band, their charity work and sustainability initiative was a brilliant addition to my writing about the experience itself. I had a fantastic time writing (and researching!) this piece.
In my final article at The Stag, I turned my attention to a problem that I've considered a lot during my Media and Communications degree.

For me, family vlogging is a scary issue. In this Opinion article, I lay out my reasons why.
